LIFE BEHIND CURTAINS

ICP e Camera Torino Masterclass
ICP Intensive Course in Visual Storytelling - Final Project
I am very grateful to all the teachers and people who encouraged me in the realisation of this project, it was a very formative experience that encouraged me to pay attention to details.
Special thanks to Marco and Flavio who shared their sweetness and passion for theatre with me.
At the young age of 24, Annibale Ruccello wrote his first independent work. The two
gender non-conforming characters, Anna and Jennifer, live in loneliness and fear, waiting for the phone call that could change their lives. For Jennifer, it's Franco—a man who has promised to marry her.
There is something ancestral in the air: ancient yet modern thoughts that echo within us every day, whether on stage or in the alleys of the city. Jennifer is both the devil and holy water; Anna is her mirror. Together, they are the eternal contradiction and the embodiment of Neapolitan ambiguity.
Life Behind Curtains is the project I developed during the ICP (International Center of Photography – NY) Masterclass in collaboration with CAMERA – Centro Italiano per la Fotografia in Turin.
I sought to document the process of preparing for a theatrical rehearsal, capturing all the nuances of what it means for an actor to step into the character’s shoes and gradually merge with them. The project explores themes of transformation and marginalisation, but also love, despair, and the search for meaning in the human experience.
