ICP + Camera Torino Masterclass - Sense of place
Il Nonno - Assignment #2
During my childhood, I would have liked to live in a city instead of a small village near the mountains. I’ve always loved nature, but the idea of the city and its people has always fascinated me.
As I grew up, I realized how crucial it was for me to be surrounded by nature and how precious its beauty truly is.
For me, a sense of place means the desire to photograph something meaningful in my life. My intention is to create something that played a role in my creative process—so I decided to celebrate Nature.
My desire is to share with viewers the experience of seeing a place through my eyes and to help them understand how I feel about it.
This park is called Parco della Tesoriera, and it’s home to the oldest tree in Turin, affectionately known as Il Nonno (the Grandfather).
I immediately thought of this park because I felt a deep connection to it from the very first day I visited. It reminds me of the trees I see through the windows of my parents’ house.
The age of the old American sycamore is remarkable—it's believed to have been planted around 1715, the same year Villa Sartirana, the 18th-century Baroque mansion, was built.
